CNN —More than 16,000 pounds of raw ground beef products were recalled by the US Department of Agriculture on Wednesday on concerns the meat may be contaminated with E. coli. The meat items, produced by Cargill Meat Solutions, were sold at Walmart retail locations across the United States. According to a recall notice from the USDA, the potentially contaminated beef was produced on April 26 and April 27. “At Walmart, the health and safety of our customers is always a top priority,” a Walmart spokesperson told CNN in a statement. Walmart customers who have purchased any affected products should throw them away or return them to the place where they were purchased, according to the agency.

Activist Ancora on Thursday won the support of the BMWED Teamsters in the investor's efforts to oust Norfolk Southern CEO Alan Shaw and a majority of the railroad's 13-person board. The labor group said it would back the activist's seven director nominees over Norfolk Southern management, a significant endorsement in an industry unusually dependent on union support. The support from the BMWED Teamsters, whose members build and maintain the track infrastructure that keeps Norfolk Southern trains moving, amounts to a sharp rebuke of Shaw and Norfolk Southern's board. Norfolk Southern and Ancora have been locked in a proxy contest for several months. Neuberger Berman, for example, is backing the activist and said that Norfolk Southern had a history of poor governance and that a boardroom change was needed.

It's an urgent question — what do we do with the 40 million tons of plastic waste we produce annually? One year of plastic waste is roughly enough to smother the entirety of Manhattan a meter deep, and it has to go somewhere. Tucked away in the forests of Hocking Hills, Ohio, is a luxury cabin that was recently named one of the hottest vacation rentals in the world by a panel of judges selected by eviivo, a property management system for hotels, vacation rentals and bed and breakfasts. The properties were chosen from hundreds of submissions and ranked against features like "design, history, amenities and visual aesthetics," according to eviivo's press release announcing the list. Known as The Rocky Villa, the Ohio property includes a two-bedroom, two-bathroom cabin and offers "the perfect blend of luxury and tranquility," according to the rental's website. It also features two waterfalls, "creating a serene and picturesque backdrop for your stay," the website says.

CNN —The bird flu spreading through cattle in the United States is an “enormous concern” the chief scientist of the World Health Organization said Thursday as he called for more tracking and preparation for the virus. So far, there is no evidence that the highly pathogenic H5N1 flu virus can spread from person to person. Though H5N1 doesn’t spread from person to person, humans can catch it when they’re exposed to infected animals. They are only the second documented case of human H5N1 in the United States. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that while the current risk to public health from H5N1 is low, it is monitoring the situation carefully.
